The Erasmus Mundus joint Master in Artificial Intelligence EMAI is a two-year (120 ECTS) Erasmus Mundus joint Master organised with funds from the European Union that provides a comprehensive framework of theory and practice in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The EMAI is based in four top academic institutions representing world-leading research in Europe: Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona, Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), Radboud University in Nijmegen (The Netherlands), and University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). The rest of the consortium comprises the prestigious University College London (UCL) Centre for Artificial Intelligence and other AI research centres worldwide, as well as almost 20 industrial partners, including multinational companies and small and medium-sized enterprises.
The EMAI gives the students the foundational knowledge to explore key contextual areas and complex technical applications of AI systems. It offers a unique formation in the field, integrating machine learning and modern symbolic AI in theory, methods and applications. Hence, students learn not only to use AI technologies but also to develop new tools beyond the state of the art. This is a key competitive advantage that will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills for successful professional development in a large number of sectors of the digital industry (ICT, cybersecurity, data science, robotics, digital health, renewable energy, etc.), as well as to continue a scientific career through a PhD programme.
EMAI accepts students with a strong background in computer science, software engineering, and applied mathematics. The main recommended entry profiles are students with a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, such as Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics, or equivalent.

Cybersecurity
I hope to gain a deep understanding of the principles of AI and cybersecurity and their applications, as well as to acquire more practical skills by participating in projects first-hand. I am also drawn to the programme’s international environment, which will expose me to new perspectives and allow me to build a global network of future AI professionals, researchers and colleagues.

Intelligent Decision Making
The Summer School was amazing and extremely motivating for me to consider pursuing a PhD. It was great to learn from the brilliant minds at UCL and to get to know the college better. I’m really looking forward to applying there. The trip to Conception X was a highlight, showcasing other exciting avenues to pursue during a PhD. And of course, talking with everyone and hearing their experience was the cherry on top!
